A Lexicon of Health

Scrub, or exfoliating scrub

In order for the skin to efficiently breathe, release toxins, and take in nutrients, we need to clear away a layer of dead skin – a process called exfoliation. There are acidic ingredients, like alpha-hydoxies, which help to soften the dead skin. But it is scrubs that are used to lift the layer and pull it away. Ingredients will vary in courseness-from softer carrot and coconut shreds to rougher coffee grinds and sea salts – depending upon how much scrubbing needs to be done.

Cleanser

A cleanser can be many different things. It can be a bar soap, or an alcohol-based astrigent. When cleansing the face, many women find that detergent based soap can be too harsh for the skin. If you prefer to used soap , try to find one that has vegetable oil or glycerine as its based, and that is non drying and nonabrasive. As for astringent – type cleansers, there are products available in day spas, health food stores, beauty shops, and better drug stores, beauty shops, and better drugstores that will cleanse and exfoliate your skin while refreshing it. When a recipe calls for a cleanser, use what you like, but remember that pure and natural will be best.

Masque

A masque is similar to what its name implies. But it doesn’t necessarily just cover your face, like a mask. It can be used to cover your skin. A mask tend to be pastry or creamy mixture that is left to sit on the skin, so as to nourish and soften it.

Wrap

Usually, there is an element of detoxificiation involved in wraps. A detoxifying mixture, made with ingredients that draw impurities from the skin, is applied to the body, which is then wrapped up in seaweed or towels and left to sweat for a while. But the body may also be wrapped when it is covered with a nourish your mind, body and spirit and encourage toxins elimination.

Facial

Facials are designed to deeply cleanse, rejuvenate, and nourish the face – and sometime they call for several processes to achieve these things, one at a time. Cleansers, scrub, and masque are all used.

Meditation

Some people get intimidated by the ideal of medication because they think they’ll have to do something difficult or esoteric with their minds. Yes, in certain traditions. Meditation can have different meanings. But for our purposes, it is simply letting your mind relax, and making space for your spirit. I like to think of it this way to God; mediation is listening to God, to the devine within you. It’s being in a active state of listening to your breath, your heartbeat, and your inner being. He inner peace you achieve while meditating promotes wellness of mind and body, which promotes beauty.

Aromatherapy

Some people mistake aromatherapy for the enjoyment of lovely fragrances. They acknowledge the influence of pleasant scents on moods. For example, if you have fond memories in your backyard when you were growing up, the smell of roses today will automatically bring you back to the positive feeling of those times. But aromatherapy is much more than sweet smells. It is an intricate science. It is the extraction and distillation of essences of plants.

Scientists have discovered that your nose your olfactory system , really has a direct passageway to your brain. When you inhale the fragrance of a plant or its essential oil, you take in the gaseous molecules of that plant, and that causes a series of reaction of the brain, which in turn stimulate a series of reaction throughout the body. When the molecules are inhaled and massaged into the body, they entered the bloodstream, therapeutically affecting the organ and glands of the body. Breathing in the essence of a flower or plant, you expose your brain to information that causes it to release endorphins and pheromones, which causes the rest of the body to be relaxed or stimulated, cooled or heated.

Because artificial scents don’t have the right molecular structure, they don’t have the same effect on the brain and the body. So, while a synthetic rose-scented oil might make you feel nostalgic for a minute or two, it won’t give you the full effect of true aromatherapy, invigorating or calming your body, mind and spirit. And you certainly won’t have the antiseptic benefits. You might even have an allergic or asthmatic reaction to an artificial fragrances.
